Chelsea Threatens to Cancel Bayern’s Loan Deal for Nicolas Jackson

Munich/London, August 30, 2025 — Chelsea have informed Bayern Munich that they intend to pull the plug on the agreed loan move for striker Nicolas Jackson, according to a report from The Athletic. The decision follows an injury to Chelsea forward Liam Delap, who picked up a knock in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Fulham and is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

    Chelsea Reconsiders Agreement

Jackson had already traveled to Munich to undergo his medical with Bayern when Chelsea called him back to London. The decision was made on Saturday afternoon after discussions between Chelsea’s sporting leadership and head coach Enzo Maresca. While the deal is not officially off, it is currently on hold as talks continue between the two clubs.

    Bayern Seek a Way Forward

Bayern officials plan to re-engage with Chelsea in the wake of their 3-2 Bundesliga win at Augsburg to find a possible solution. For now, Jackson and his agent, Ali Barat, remain in Munich, with no return flight booked. Barat, head of the EPIC agency, is reportedly working intensively to keep the deal alive.

    Eberl’s Cautious Reaction

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl reacted cautiously when speaking to Sky Sport: “Transfers are only final when the signatures are there. The player is here, and now we will see what happens. After the game we’ll sit down, think about it, and decide how to respond.” Eberl stressed that in football, even when agreements seem settled, unexpected issues can arise: “You negotiate, you prepare, you agree, and then the medical check follows. Even at that stage, extraordinary things can still happen.”

    Deal Structure and Uncertainty

The proposed agreement between the clubs involves a loan with an option to buy. The clause would allow Bayern to make the move permanent in summer 2026 for €65 million. The loan fee itself is set at €15 million, payable upfront. Whether the deal can still be salvaged in the final days of the transfer window remains unclear.
