Germany find breakthrough after frustrating first half

Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade scored twice as Germany beat Luxembourg in 2026 World Cup qualifying. Germany struggled in the first half and could not break down Luxembourg’s defence. Four minutes after the break, Leroy Sane delivered a cross that Woltemade stabbed into the net. The goal lifted Germany and gave them control of the game.

    Woltemade doubles Germany’s advantage

Just over 20 minutes from time, Woltemade scored again, finishing Ridle Baku’s incisive pass. Germany maintained pressure and looked for further chances. Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz tried a late shot, but Luxembourg blocked his effort. The team showed determination and a strong attacking rhythm throughout the match.

    Germany lead Group A

The win pushed Germany to the top of Group A, ahead of Slovakia on goal difference. Both Germany and Slovakia have secured top-two finishes, but the automatic qualification spot remains undecided. The two teams will face each other in the final qualifying match in Germany on Monday, 17 November.

    Woltemade continues fine form

Woltemade’s two goals add to his impressive run, following six goals in his first season at Newcastle. His performance cements his role as a rising star for Germany and gives the team confidence heading into their decisive fixtures.
