Tottenham Hotspur have completed a season-long loan for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani. The 26-year-old has drawn Premier League interest for months, with Spurs, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham all linked. He will join Tottenham on transfer deadline day after agreeing personal terms with Thomas Frank’s side.
Kolo Muani’s Journey Across Europe
Kolo Muani spent the latter half of last season on loan at Juventus, scoring eight goals in 16 Serie A appearances. The former Nantes and Eintracht Frankfurt forward joined PSG in September 2023 and has already won two Ligue 1 titles. He holds 31 senior caps for France, scoring in the 2022 World Cup semi-final victory over Morocco and playing in the final defeat by Argentina.
Tottenham’s Fourth Summer Signing
Kolo Muani will become Tottenham’s fourth senior signing of the summer, following Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha and Xavi Simons. Alongside wingers Kudus and Simons, the centre-forward could form a reimagined strikeforce as Spurs prepare for a Champions League return. The signings come after a transfer window of mixed success, with failed bids for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who joined Arsenal instead. Spurs are also pursuing a central defender before Monday’s 19:00 BST deadline, showing interest in Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji after a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi fell through.
A Replacement for Solanke?
Kolo Muani arrives amid concerns over striker Dominic Solanke’s ankle injury. After Spurs’ 1-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, Frank expressed hope Solanke would return after the international break but warned of potential squad imbalance if another attacker joined. “To have three strikers in the squad can also cause a problem as you can only play one at a time,” Frank said. “It’s a fine balance. I’m not saying we will never go for another striker later, but I’m happy with Solanke and Richarlison.” Solanke’s absence left Spurs without a specialist centre-forward on the bench, prompting the move to strengthen the attack.
A Silkier Alternative to Richarlison
Kolo Muani is perhaps best remembered for a missed chance in the 2022 World Cup final, where Emiliano Martinez brilliantly saved his 120th-minute effort for France against Argentina. Yet that moment reflects his positioning and attacking instincts, which made him an attractive option for Spurs. The French striker is two-footed, excels at finding space in the box, and stands 6ft 1in, making him strong in the air. He has scored consistently at previous clubs, including 10 goals in 22 appearances for Juventus and 26 in 50 for Frankfurt. At PSG, he netted 11 in 54 games, often playing as a substitute.
Kolo Muani offers a more technical style compared with the physical presence of Richarlison, Tottenham’s starter in the Bournemouth defeat. He can also operate across the frontline, providing valuable depth as Spurs aim to compete domestically and in Europe.
