Tottenham salvaged a 2-2 draw at Bodø/Glimt thanks to a late own goal after Jens Petter Hauge’s double had put the Norwegian champions on the brink of a famous Champions League victory.
Thomas Frank’s side were 2-0 down midway through the second half and struggling, only to rally through Micky van de Ven’s header and a fortuitous deflection off Jostein Gundersen in the 89th minute. It was Spurs’ fourth own-goal reprieve of the season, and one that spared them from a damaging defeat in the Arctic Circle.
Bodø/Glimt, playing their first home game in the Champions League group stage, were roared on by a fervent crowd in the still September night. Fireworks and the club anthem set the tone before kick-off, and Hauge delivered on the occasion. The winger, who has played for Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt, drifted in from the left to score twice, underlining his technical quality and composure.
Spurs had their moments. Rodrigo Bentancur thought he had levelled after a Pedro Porro free-kick struck the post, only for VAR to rule it out for a foul in the buildup. Van de Ven did eventually head home another Porro delivery shortly after Hauge’s second, keeping Tottenham in contention.
Archie Gray’s late strike deflected in off Gundersen to secure the point, denying Bodø/Glimt what would have been a deserved victory. Frank admitted his side had “struggled” before showing “big character” to fight back, but Tottenham’s lack of control and repeated habit of conceding first remain concerns.
For Glimt, serenaded by their supporters at the final whistle, the draw was another reminder of how far a club from a town of just 50,000 has come. For Spurs, it was another escape.
