Rangers secured Youssef Chermiti from Everton in a £10m deal to boost their attacking options.

The 21-year-old Portuguese striker impressed at Sporting Lisbon as a teenager, scoring in key youth and first-team matches.

    Early Talent at Sporting

Former coach Pedro Coelho met Chermiti at 14 and watched him dominate his age groups.

Chermiti stood out with a memorable bicycle kick against Benfica at under-15 level.

Coelho praised Chermiti’s combination of height, pace, power, and attacking intelligence, especially at the back post.

    Professional Debut and Impact

Amorin handed Chermiti his first-team debut at 18 against Benfica, with his first goal following a month later versus Rio Ave.

He scored again in a match against Porto, earning praise from opposition coach Sergio Conceicao.

Chermiti also led Sporting in a Europa League quarter-final first leg against Juventus, despite a 1-0 defeat.

    Strong Statistical Profile

In 839 league minutes, Chermiti ranked high in expected goals, touches in the box, and aerial duels among Portugal’s top forwards.

Premier League clubs including Everton, Wolverhampton, and Bournemouth noticed his statistical impact.

    Everton Transfer and Struggles

Everton signed Chermiti for £15m, but injuries limited him to 24 appearances and 295 minutes across two seasons, without scoring.

Foot and hamstring injuries halted his progress, allowing mostly late cameo appearances.

    Rangers as a Development Platform

Kevin Thelwell, Rangers’ director of football, endorsed Chermiti’s potential to become a top striker in Glasgow.

Coelho emphasized that Chermiti matured during his Premier League stint and is now ready to perform at a higher level.

    Expectations for the Future

Rangers expect Chermiti to develop quickly and make an immediate attacking impact for the club in the Scottish Premiership.
