Real Madrid steadied a turbulent week with a 2-0 home win over Levante, as Kylian Mbappé struck from the spot before Raúl Asencio sealed victory. Boos greeted kick-off after recent setbacks, but Mbappé’s 58th-minute penalty calmed the Bernabéu and Asencio’s header soon after gave new coach Álvaro Arbeloa breathing room. The result leaves Real second in La Liga, one point behind Barcelona, who have a game in hand.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said a decision on Marcus Rashford’s long-term future will wait, despite the forward impressing on loan from Manchester United.

In Italy, Inter stayed top of Serie A with a 1-0 win at Udinese via Lautaro Martínez. In Germany, attention turns to Bayern Munich’s trip to RB Leipzig, while in France Lens aim to reclaim top spot in Ligue 1 when they host Auxerre.
