Japan delivered a stunning second-half performance to claim their first-ever victory over Brazil in Tokyo.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Paulo Henrique smashed home a powerful shot after a precise pass from Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli extended the lead six minutes later, controlling a pass from West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta before finishing low into the net.

Japan refused to fold and mounted a fierce response after halftime.

Former Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino pulled one back just after the hour mark, sparking belief among the home fans. Moments later, Keito Nakamura equalized with a sharp strike that stunned the visitors.

Ayase Ueda then sealed Japan’s historic victory with a thunderous header in the 71st minute, completing the remarkable turnaround.

The win marked Japan’s first triumph over Brazil in international football, earning widespread celebration in Tokyo.

Brazil Falters as Japan Looks Ahead to World Cup

Ancelotti, who took charge of Brazil in May, had already guided his team to World Cup qualification with four points from two matches. His side had thrashed South Korea 5-0 in a friendly on Friday but failed to preserve their lead against Japan.

The Brazil lineup featured several Premier League stars, including Guimaraes, Martinelli, Paqueta, and Manchester United’s Casemiro.
Chelsea’s Estevao, United’s Matheus Cunha, Newcastle’s Joelinton, and Tottenham striker Richarlison entered during the second half.

Japan, already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, fielded Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada from the start, while Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka came on as a second-half substitute.
