Barcelona dominated in their first home game of the season on Sunday, with Fermín López, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski each scoring twice in a 6-0 demolition of Valencia. The win lifted Barcelona to second place in La Liga on 10 points, two behind leaders Real Madrid, while Valencia dropped to 15th. López opened the scoring in the 29th minute, with Barça running riot after the break as Raphinha and Lewandowski added further goals.
In Italy, Luka Modric scored his first goal for Milan to secure a 1-0 home win over Bologna. The 40-year-old midfielder struck past the keeper after Alexis Saelemaekers’ cross, although the victory was dampened by a goalkeeper injury and a red card for coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Paris Saint-Germain extended their perfect Ligue 1 start with a 2-0 win over Lens, despite multiple injuries. Bradley Barcola scored both goals, one a curling first-half strike and the other a low finish after the break. PSG were forced to substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lee Kang-in, and Lucas Beraldo due to injuries ahead of their Champions League opener against Atalanta.
Teenager Ethan Mbappé, Kylian’s brother, scored his first Ligue 1 goal in injury time to secure a 2-1 win for Lille against Toulouse. Lille had trailed until the 90th minute when Nabil Bentaleb converted a penalty, before Ethan volleyed the winner. Both Mbappé brothers left PSG in summer 2024, Kylian to Real Madrid and Ethan to Lille.
Borussia Mönchengladbach suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Werder Bremen, leaving them scoreless in three league games for their worst Bundesliga start in 34 years. Samuel Mbangula and Jens Stage scored in the first half, with Romano Schmid and Justin Njinmah adding after the break. Gladbach, now 16th, have gone 10 league games without a win including last season, while Bremen moved to ninth.
Danel Sinani scored late to give St Pauli a 2-1 win over Augsburg, keeping their unbeaten start to the season intact.
