Injury Brings Everton Loan to an Abrupt Halt

Jack Grealish has confirmed his season is over after undergoing surgery on a foot stress fracture, admitting he was devastated by how things ended. The midfielder picked up the injury on 18 January during Everton’s 1–0 win over his former club Aston Villa. “Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted,” Grealish wrote on Instagram.

Focus Turns to Recovery and a Comeback

The 30-year-old had been a regular presence for Everton during his loan spell from Manchester City, making 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and setting up six more goals. Despite the setback, Grealish struck an optimistic tone after surgery. “All focus now is on getting back fit,” he said. “I know for sure I’ll come back fitter, stronger and better than before.”

World Cup Dreams on Hold, Gratitude Remains

The injury has ended any chance of Grealish forcing his way into England’s World Cup squad this summer, despite recent performances sparking talk of a possible recall. His last England appearance came in October 2024 under caretaker boss Lee Carsley. Grealish, who enjoyed major success at Manchester City after his £100m move from Aston Villa in 2021, thanked Everton for their support, saying the club, teammates and fans had “meant the world” to him as he begins his road to recovery.
