Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they surrendered a lead twice in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Tottenham.
United looked in control after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half opener, but were pegged back by Mathys Tel and Richarlison, before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point with a 96th-minute header — extending United’s unbeaten run to five games.
Despite the result, Amorim was unhappy with the team’s attitude once in front.
“We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” he said. “We need to expect that in one play anything can change the mood of the stadium. We need to do better because the game was there to take.”
The manager also confirmed an injury concern for Benjamin Šeško, who appeared to hurt his knee late on: “We think he has a problem, but let’s see.”
Spurs boss Thomas Frank defended his late substitutions after home fans booed the withdrawal of Xavi Simons for Tel, who went on to equalise. “Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank admitted. “Every time I make a change, it’s to try to win the game — and [Tel] did well, got the goal, a great moment.”
While Tottenham have not won at home since 16 August, Frank insisted they are improving:
“The way we turned it around and stayed in the game, I’m very happy with that. So close to winning it, and every other day we win it.”
