Harry Kane has made it clear that his desire to return to the Premier League has faded. The England captain now says he is open to extending his stay at Bayern Munich and discussing a new contract.
Kane is halfway through the four-year deal he signed when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for £86.4 million. Since arriving in Germany, he has scored 103 goals in 106 games and played a key role in Bayern’s 2024-25 Bundesliga title – the first major trophy of his career.
Kane distances himself from Premier League return
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank recently said he would like to see Kane back in England. The striker still needs 48 goals to surpass Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record of 260 goals. But Kane now feels less drawn to the idea of returning home.
“In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that,” Kane said. “I spoke openly a couple of weeks ago that I haven’t had those conversations with Bayern yet. But if they come up, I’d be ready to talk and have an honest discussion. Obviously, it depends on what we achieve together in the next year or so. Right now, we’re in a fantastic moment, and I’m not thinking about anything else.”
When asked again about a possible Premier League return, Kane reflected on how his perspective has changed. “If you had asked me when I first left for Bayern, I would have said for sure I’d come back. Now, after a couple of years here, I’d say that feeling has gone down a bit. But I wouldn’t say I’d never go back,” he explained.
Kane added that football often brings unexpected turns. “I’ve learned that opportunities and timing can change everything. But right now, I’m fully committed to Bayern.”
Hungry for more after first trophy
Kane holds the all-time scoring records for both Tottenham and England. He recently became the fastest player this century to score 100 goals for a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues, reaching that mark in just 104 games for Bayern. Despite his scoring feats, it took until last season’s Bundesliga triumph for him to lift a major trophy.
The striker admitted he wasn’t sure how he would react to finally ending his long wait for silverware. Now, he says the success has only strengthened his ambition.
“When you win a title like I did last year, it could be easy to relax and think, ‘I’ve done what I wanted’,” Kane said. “But it’s actually made me hungrier. It’s given me more motivation to improve. I think I’ve shown that this season.”
Kane revealed he wondered how lifting his first trophy would affect his mindset. “I was curious how I’d feel after winning one. But I’ve realised there’s so much more I want to achieve – bigger trophies and more success,” he said.
Kane pushes himself harder than ever
The England captain insists he has become even more dedicated since Bayern’s title win. “After that success, I’ve pushed myself to be even better – eating cleaner, training harder, spending more time in the gym,” he said. “I just want to make the most of what I have right now.”
With over 100 goals, a Bundesliga title, and a renewed hunger for more, Kane’s focus remains clear. For now, the Premier League can wait – Bayern Munich is where he belongs.
