Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 39th World Cup qualifying goal, equalling Guatemala striker Carlos Ruiz’s all-time record.

Ronaldo, now 40, pushed his international tally to 141 goals in 223 Portugal appearances, the highest by any male player.

He converted a penalty in the 58th minute at Puskas Arena, briefly giving Portugal the lead over Hungary.

    Portugal Survive Late Drama

Barnabas Varga opened scoring in the 21st minute, but Bernardo Silva equalised 15 minutes later for Portugal.

Varga struck again in the 84th minute, seemingly securing Hungary a point against the group leaders.

Two minutes later, Joao Cancelo scored decisively, sealing a dramatic 3-2 Portugal victory under Roberto Martinez.

    Group F Standings Tighten

Ronaldo had also scored twice in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Armenia last Saturday.

That result kept Portugal at the top of Group F with six points from two games.

Hungary sit third with one point, level with Ireland, who lost 2-1 to Armenia.
